Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge’s habitats in New Orleans are one of the marsh areas left by Lakes Pontchartrain and Borgne.
These wildlife habitats include lagoons, patches of hardwood forest, canals, natural bayous, and more.
Enjoy the nature of this wonderful place through its wide variety of activities such as bird-watching, self-guided tours, hiking, waterfowl hunting for the youngest, and more.
Some of the species you can find in its bayous and lagoons are catfish, largemouth bass, crawfish, crappie, and bluegill, while crabs are in the Pontchartrain and Borgne lakes.
You won’t miss a chance to see birds, given that there are over 340 species in the refuge, including pelicans.
Alligators are usually along the waterways, so don’t forget to keep a safe distance!
